Students are able to opt for one of the following enrichment course to supplement their core study programme:
- Higher Sports Leadership
- Core Maths
- Financial Studies
- Extended Project Qualification
- Maths & English GCSE retakes
There are also other non-academic enrichment opportunities available such as the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, peer mentoring, house competitions, job shadowing, stage productions and the annual Eisteddfod!
Study Programme Structure
Most students will study three subjects (or the equivalent) across Years 12 and 13.
A small number of our most able students will have the opportunity to study four subjects across the two years.
There will be no formal AS examinations, but students will have regular assessments and rigorous internal examinations at the end of Year 12.
Three A level study programmes:
Achieve a minimum of five 6-9 GCSE grades
- Meet any specific subject entry requirements
Level 3 BTEC programmes:
Achieve a minimum of five 5-9 GCSE grades or the BTEC Level 2 equivalents (pass or above)
Meet any specific subject entry requirements
Level 3 BTEC courses can be combined with A levels. Mixed programmes will be subject to a review of individual examination performance.
All Study Programmes
Offers to study in the Sixth Form are conditional on meeting the above entry requirements and the following:
- For current SBHS students: a satisfactory behaviour and attendance record in the lower school
- For external students: a satisfactory school reference.
