Polar Night Marathon Update

Polar Night Marathon Update

Last Saturday, our Head of PE, Mrs Punt, conquered the Polar Night Marathon and raised a magnificent £20,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The Norwegian Arctic run took place in extreme sub zero temperatures (down to -23), in darkness and on ice. However, this polar bear (aka Mrs Punt) still managed to achieve another Guinness World Record.

At 1pm with the sun and temperatures going down the race started in the picturesque hamlet of Sjøtun, which is located by a fjord on the island of Kvaløya. The route ran along fjords, over a high mountain pass and through small villages to the island of Tromsøya and the city of Tromsø.

The only noise being the constant crunch of crampons on the snow underfoot and occasionally the howling of Arctic wolves. The scenery was breathtaking as was the support.  Following Norwegian tv coverage children were waving their polar bear drawings and as we entered the final stretch the Northern Lights greeted us.
