At South Bromsgrove High School, we believe independent study is a key part of helping you succeed.

It’s about learning to manage your own time, explore topics that interest you, and build skills like critical thinking and problem solving.

Learning to study on your own teaches you how to stay focused, manage your time, and keep going even when the work feels difficult or overwhelming. It helps you develop resilience—the ability to bounce back from setbacks—and stay motivated through ups and downs.

Independent study gives you the chance to go beyond what’s taught in lessons and dive deeper into subjects you enjoy. It also helps prepare you for life after school—whether that’s university, apprenticeships, or work—where being able to take initiative and adapt is really important.
