Gold training weekend, Brecon Beacons, March 2015

In mid-March, 83 students from Year 13 completed their final practice on the Brecon Beacons before their Qualifying Gold expedition in Snowdonia this summer. They were blessed with superb weather and even a once-in-a-lifetime partial solar eclipse on the Friday morning. We were lucky to have Mr Clark, Mr Lawrance and Mr Buncle with us to set up a number of ways to safely view the eclipse!

All students completed the notorious Night Nav training, putting new skills to the test on the hills, well past midnight! Their routes during the day were long and mountainous: QG8 claimed a new record with 25 km over four mountain summits, including Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales. At times they were above the snowline, and made the most of the opportunity for a snowball fight!
