Are there really only people who like or dislike marmite?
Welcome to South Bromsgrove High (locally known as “South”).
South is an outstanding school where students enjoy learning in a way which stimulates their imagination and creativity. We maintain high standards of achievement, offer a broad and relevant curriculum, and place great emphasis on a high quality of experience in lessons. A great majority of our students choose to enter our vibrant and highly successful Sixth Form after studies in Year 11.
We are proud of our traditions, such as success in The Duke of Edinburgh Award, where we are the largest school-based centre in the country. Our annual Eisteddfod, which is a spectacle of competition and performance second to none, lives on in the memories of former students.
Academic success is important, but we believe strongly that schools are environments where character is built and identity forged. Our school community understands that the development of leadership and team working and recognition and practise of empathy, tolerance, respect and resilience are not optional extras. These qualities enable our young people to become the next generation of leaders and innovators in their chosen fields.
I have selected a few comments from our inspection report (October 2012) which highlight our success…
“Consistently high-quality teaching promotes excellent progress across the school. The variety and pace of activities are often breathtaking, keeping all students fully engaged. “
“Warm, constructive relationships pervade classrooms; disruption of any kind is virtually unknown.”
“Students’ attitudes to school are exemplary. Behaviour is calm, mature and considerate. Warm relationships contribute to the exceptionally positive climate for learning both in and out of lessons. Parents and carers, staff and students are universally positive about behaviour.”
“An enormously wide but well-balanced range of subjects is a great strength in this exceptional school.”
“The arts have a very high status in the school. Three choirs, each of over 200 students, compete in the annual school ‘Eisteddfod’ competition. The extensive Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme involves over half of the staff (including all senior staff) and nearly half the students in the three levels of accreditation. It brings numerous benefits in terms of students’ confidence, physical development and positive relationships, as well as improving staff bonding and morale.”
South is a school where individuals flourish, where respect and courtesy are hallmarks of our work and where everyone has a voice.
Thank you for your interest in our school.
